Moldavian Rhapsody for accordion, piano and string orchestra
Moldavian Rhapsody for accordion, piano and string orchestra is composed
by Petri Makkonen in 2019. It is based on Makkonen’s former composition
Moldavian Rock (2013) for accordion and piano - the string parts are commissioned
by PhilHarmonika Festival.
The premiere of Moldavian Rhapsody was performed by Duo Aspera
(Ghenadie Rotari & Valentina Vargiu) and a string orchestra conducted by Symeon Ioannidis in the Berlin Philharmonie Chamber Music Hall on 19th April 2019. The crazy rhythms of the piece have been influenced by the folk music of Southeast Europe.
